Build An Authentic, Meaningful Life

Men and Women both experience psychological distress.  Sometimes, it’s anxiety or career stress. On other days, you may feel isolated and experience feelings of powerlessness.

There is a stigma on men’s mental health. Societal messaging brings the idea that men must suck it up and move on with their lives. They need to “get over it.”

These beliefs compound the stress and anxiety building up inside. You may wrestle with an inner dialogue that leads you to believe there’s something wrong with you. The truth is that your mental health is essential to your well-being.

Men’s mental health struggles can result from trauma, stress, transitioning to fatherhood, or relationship issues. Negative behaviors, thoughts, or emotions can derail your life and keep you from moving forward. At Robert Allison Counseling, I help many men process their symptoms and locate the root cause. We explore their history, current lifestyle, and future goals. By using scientific and evidence-based techniques and therapies, I can help you restore your mental health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Best Therapy For Men’s Mental Health?

Everyone is unique and deserves a customized therapy approach. Your unique struggles may not match someone else’s. I personalize therapy plans for each client to help them reach their goals. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a helpful therapy method that enables you to understand the causes of suffering, and make lasting changes. Together, we can work to unpack your thoughts surrounding your situation. I offer flexible sessions that address your concerns. You will learn the tools to manage symptoms and gain the confidence you need for a better life.

Do I Need Therapy?

It can feel challenging to realize you need help to improve your mental health. However, therapy can offer insights and clarity to help you live better. My flexible sessions provide a way for you to dig deep into your unique emotions and issues.

What Are The Signs Of Men’s Mental Health Concerns?

Oftentimes men don’t realize their mental health is in decline until it reaches a point of crisis. They know they don’t feel well and suffer in silence. Some men may experience feelings of emptiness, apathy, or boredom. Other men have angry outbursts, substance abuse, or phobias. We can work together to process your concerns and help you heal.

How Long Are Therapy Sessions?

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes.  Six sessions is generally a good benchmark to evaluate initial progress, and my clients often choose to continue our work from there and generally accomplish their goals between six months and one year. The exact length of therapy depends on your unique needs and goals. I spend the first session or two getting up to speed on your unique history and goals, and setting a foundation for how to reach them. If you’re unsure of your goals, I can help you clarify them and help you get your life back on track.
