Work Stress

Stress Is Inevitable

We spend a lot of hours working, even without counting the amount of hours we spend thinking about work when we aren’t there.  Oftentimes feelings of being overwhelmed at work start to blur the lines between work and home.

Stress from the office begins to take a toll at home.  You can’t leave work at work.

Stress starts to rob the enjoyment from things you used to love to do.

There’s no shortage of accomplishments and achievements to pursue, but it’s not clear if you are pursuing what you really want.  Racing to the next goal starts to feel pointless.  You are just chasing a never ending string of achievements.

The chasing may never stop, but the enjoyment does.  Each time you hit a new accomplishment you can’t appreciate or enjoy it.  It’s just on to the next one.

There can always be more, but it never feels like enough.  A new title, a different job, more money, more people to appease…

What Stress Can Look Like:

  • Feeling irritable a lot of the time
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Feeling out of control
  • Feeling like you are never “off the clock” (or maybe you never really are “off the clock”)
  • Thoughts and feelings about work start to creep into your home life

Get Back To Enjoying Life

Together we can work to establish healthy boundaries between your work life and the rest of life.  We will build skills to help you better manage stress.  We can work together to build a plan to stop stress from grinding the enjoyment from your life and get back to enjoying it.  I’ll venture a guess that you aren’t nearing retirement yet, so we can explore how to bring, or find, some kind of meaning and purpose to the work you are doing, or find the work you want to do.

You’ll learn skills to respond differently to the thoughts and emotions that lead to stress. These skills can help you transcend stress and get back to working towards the things you care about.  We can work together to end the chase and shift the focus to getting engaged in things you really care about.

I have spent more than a decade helping men end their struggles with stress. My practice is grounded in well researched, reliable, and evidenced-based methods.  Together we use these methods to identify old, unhelpful, counterproductive behavioral patterns, and then build more flexible, adaptive, behavioral patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Stress Therapy?

Stress therapy, a form of talk therapy, can guide you in connecting the dots between the stress you’re feeling and your emotions and behaviors. Many men out there, just like you, experience shifts in their physical and mental well-being due to stress.  Opening up to a professional about your thoughts and feelings isn’t just about venting, it is about spotting and changing negative thoughts and behavior patterns that have been holding you back.  Once you identify them, you can work towards positive change and more agency in your life.

How Can A Stress Therapist Help Me Feel Better?

A stress therapist can help you manage stress. Whether you’re experiencing mental health concerns because of stress or you want to be proactive and prevent future issues, I can help. As an experienced therapist, I use a combination of evidence-based therapy methods to give you workable, sustainable tools. I can help you identify stress triggers and more effectively respond to and manage unwanted symptoms. This process will help you regain control of your well-being and enjoy life again.

Do You Use Specific Therapy Methods To Address Stress?

Yes. In my experience, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an effective method for stress recovery. I won’t give you lists of “to dos” and “not to dos”, my goal is to offer sustainable tools that will help you break the endless cycles contributing to stress. ACT is a research-based and practical approach. It can help you find agency, promote healing, and achieve work life balance.

What Are Some Ways I Can Relieve Stress?

Men can experience stress from relationships, work, medical conditions, fatherhood, finances, and more. Exercise, a balanced diet, and meditation, are techniques that can relieve stress. They can also help feel balanced between mind and body. We will work together to create a plan that enables you to manage stress symptoms and live a better life.
